Gutter Repair or Replacement? How to Decide
Most gutter problems are repairable. Here’s what we check on a repair visit and when replacing the gutters is the better value.

A leaking corner or a sagging section doesn’t mean you need a whole new system. On most repair visits, the fix is a few hangers, a resealed miter, or a re-pitched run. The question is whether the gutter is still worth fixing.
What we check
- Hangers: are they loose, spaced too far apart, or screwed into soft wood?
- Pitch: does water flow to the downspout, or sit in the middle of the run?
- Seams and corners: is sealant cracked, or is the joint separated?
- Fascia: is the board behind the gutter solid enough to hold new fasteners?
- Downspouts: are they clogged, crushed, undersized, or dumping at the foundation?
Usually worth repairing
Seamless gutters that are the right size, with a few leaking corners, a loose section, or a run that has lost its pitch. These repairs are fast and extend the life of the system.
Usually worth replacing
Sectional gutters leaking at many seams, steel gutters rusted through, gutters that are too small for the roof, or systems that have been patched so many times the repairs cost more each year. In those cases, a new seamless system costs less over time.
We’ll give you both options in writing, so you can decide with real numbers.
